Get to Know Me

Hi everyone! Since you clicked on this article, allow me to introduce myself. I’m a multi-genre author (short stories, paranormal/contemporary romance, urban fantasy, fairytales etc.) and a poet. My name is Despoina (pronounced as Despeena). I’m from Greece and I’m 24 years old. I’ve been calling myself an author, since I managed to self-publish my first book “Fated to Meet You” on November, 2018. This was a big step for me.

You see, I started writing when I was only 11 years old. My first story was a retelling of “Cinderella”. I remember drawing the characters and writing the story as if it was a fairytale book. In 2nd grade of Middle School, I started writing another fairytale-like story with faeries and mermaids. I finished it four years later, but I still haven’t published that story.

I have been writing for the fun of it, but I only took it seriously when I was 21. The only person who supported me at first was my boyfriend. He was always by my side, praising my writing and helping me move forward. He, finally, persuaded me to self-publish my first book in 2018. He did the cover design, the formatting and everything related to my book. He also created a website for me. I don’t know if I would be able to come this far without his help. I also can’t thank enough my dear best friend, who read patiently through every page I’ve written and honestly told me her opinion, helping me to improve. She is one of my biggest fans!

Apart from writing, I have a thing for photography. I have been taking pictures of mostly landscapes and flowers since 2017. I love nature and I started taking pictures of it, because I wanted to remember all the beautiful things I saw. I wish my eyes could capture images too. (No kidding!) In my free time, I like to draw. I usually draw manga characters. Manga are those cute Japanese comics that you might have seen around the Internet. I’m still a newbie at this, but I keep practicing, hoping that one day, I’ll draw my own books’ characters, too. In winter, when snow covers the mountain summits, I go skiing. It’s one of my favorite extreme sports and I’m in love with it. I love that feeling of the cold air touching my face as I’m skiing down the mountain slope.

I want to thank you all for taking the time to read this until the end. I hope I’ll be posting more soon. If there’s a specific topic you’d like me to blog about, write it in the comments below. Just a little reminder before you go; never give up. Whatever happens, you must never give up. Keep pursuing your dreams. Even if it seems difficult to achieve them, one day you’ll make it. You’ll get there. Believe in yourself.
